After reading the play, Antigone, written by Sophocles, students had to write an essay, identifying who they felt to be the true tragic hero. Antigone or Creon? Each student was given 3 post-its of one color. Each class period had a color specific for each character, Antigone and Creon. Students had to pick who they felt was the true tragic hero, based on their decision, I gave them the coordinating post-it. Students were then ask to write a reason they felt their chosen character was the true tragic hero. Once that was complete they were given 3 more post-its, on the new post-its student had to find a quote within the play that supports their reasoning. After students had gathered their evidence and support they placed their sticky notes on the whiteboard, under the name of the character they felt was the tragic hero. At the end of the period students were welcomed to come to the front of the class and read what the notes said. They were encouraged to take pictures to help them when writing their essays.
