Students explored the field of banned and challenged books. They learned that books are not always accepted with open arms. Many books hold knowledge that others may fear. Students were assigned a project to save a banned book. The project began with a simple list of books that they would like to save. The list was narrowed down and each group, at random, chose their book to save. They did extensive research, wrote a letter to the American Library Association and had students sign petition papers in hopes that their book would be saved. Students put together a "case file", created posters and visited a Senior Expository English class. They presented their case to the class in one minuet, and then left the class to read their letters and pick one single book to ultimately be saved.
